Comments about TheNorthFace MOUNTAIN 25:

My wife and I were finally going to begin winter camping. We were in the market for a tent that would suit more extreme adventures. I really like to research before I buy. It was down to the old debate of pole clips over pole sleeves. Don't let that be a factor. The Mountain 25 is easy to set up after the second time and the pole sleeves form an absolutely solid connection from tent to pole to flysheet. I was surprised just how comfortable it is for two people to live out of. The two crossover side poles really pull the sides of the tent out. The footprint dimensions fool you into thinking its going to be cramped. Its not. Its perfect for two with all winter gear spread out and hanging. So many great pockets for storage. Front vestibule is perfect for storage, cooking or sitting under with your feet resting in the dug out snow well. Self centring guylines make this tent bullet proof. If you are in the market for a great extreme location summer tent or winter shelter for two , the Mountain 25 is a win win.

    Comments about TheNorthFace MOUNTAIN 25:

Overall, the Mountain 25 is a great tent. It's well designed, durable, and has a few smart design choices that friends continually comment on; glowing zippers, easy to set up, durable cross-braced poles and tie points, rigid stock pegs, good length & width, lots of storage pockets. My biggest complaint would be the weight, it's pretty bulky for the average backpacking trip and ideal for cooler weather. Granted, this is an all-season tent and not designed to be super light. My other complaint is that the slope of the entrance isn't well designed for people over 5'8". I'm flexible, but at 6'2" I pretty much need to crawl on my knees to get inside.

I've owned it for a full two seasons and use it often in the Canadian climate. It holds up well against wind with minimal chatter. It catches a bit too much condensation, but vents easily and dries quickly. The space inside is perfect for two tall adults.

      Comments about TheNorthFace MOUNTAIN 25:

The mountain 25 tent is a tried and tested design or so the marketing description goes. I would't disagree with this. The overall design is simple, functional and practical. There are however, some important failings in the design of this tent and certainly the some of the materials and coatings used in the tent leave more than a little to be desired.

      Bad points
The Fly - The coating degraded only a couple of years of purchasing the tent and leaked in moderate to heavy rain. Now the coating on the inner surface of the fly has peeled off completely in many areas and it is a good weather tent only. If you are looking for a tent that will hold up in inclement weather and last for a good couple of years I would look at another tent. Certainly when I bought the fly issue up with the company the deals with warranty claims in Australia they were less than helpful.

      Front Vestibule volume
Simple answer is that it should be bigger for serious treks. If you are trekking light and the weather turns you will be not busting for room but if you have two people with a decent amount of gear you will struggle

Warranty and support - not good

Venting in hot weather and the ability to sleep cool and dry in hotter climates. This is a tent for cooler climates for sure!! If it is raining and you want the tent to vent well you have to choose. Vent or be dry.

      Good Points

The fit out of the tent with the pockets and hang points is well though out and is very functional

The ability of the tent to withstand high winds and snow fall is good. The large number of guy ropes and attachment points makes securing the structure in any area in any conditions easy to do.

Some of the minor design features such as glow in the dark zip closures and reflective tape are good and all good tents should come with these

Internal space. The internal space and heigh within the tent is spot on for people of average height. The tent gives you rest space with enough area to have gear/ cooking space etc without overdoing it

Overall this tent has some limitations with the greatest being it fly. The fly definitely needs improvement!! If North Face fixes this and also adds some more vestibule room into the design this would be a great tent. Oh and don't expect to get good warranty or repair service if you have moved to or live in Australia

      Backgound
I have had a mountain 25 for around 7 years and have used it in a wide variety of terrains and seasons. I have maintained the tent meticulously and always clean and dry it after use. in the time I have owned it it would have been used for 50-60 days
