Anoraks

An anorak is a pullover jacket designed to be worn in rainy or windy conditions. Unlike a windbreaker, an anorak does not typically have a front zipper or may only have a quarter or half zipper at most. Anoraks often have hoods (sometimes fur-lined) and may include a kangaroo pocket similar to hoodies.

The word "anorak" is derived from the Greenlandic word annoraaq which means a hooded, waterproof jacket. Introduced into the English language through polar expeditions, the term began to describe imitations of the original outerwear starting around the 1930s.

Layer For Extra Warmth

If you need more warmth than throwing an anorak over your t-shirt, consider starting with a fitted base layer top under your shirt. A baselayer against your skin helps promote moisture-wicking and helps trap heat. You can also add a fleece mid-layer just under your anorak. Either way, the anorak acts as the outer shell providing light protection from the elements.
