Kennedi Deck

CALGARY, ALBERTA
“There’s so many aspects that you can be creative about—from the architecture around the feature, to what you’re wearing, to the trick you choose. For me, snowboarding is in art form.”
Kennedi may have grown up in the flatlands of Grand Prairie, Canada, but for Deck, the world was in 3D, surrounded by snow and objects like bike racks and wire fences that were perfect for sliding across with their snowboard. It didn’t take long for their backyard creativity to translate to success at freestyle snowboard events. At the suggestion of their coach, Kennedi moved to Calgary to train for rail jams, halfpipe and slopestyle events. While there, Deck’s riding improved immensely but they also fell into a group of friends that would open the film world.
Their film career started with a standout performance in the 2017 film Twist by SRD and accelerated with involvement in "The Uninvited", a series featuring the world’s best female snowboarders. Deck’s opening segment in the film garnered critical acclaim, earning nominations for Women’s Video Part of the Year and Rookie of the Year TransWorld Snowboarding’s 2018 awards. Landing magazine covers, pro-models and killer video parts year-after-year, Kennedi has found their rightful place in the world of snowboarding.
“I'm really proud of how authentic I've been; To really advocate for space and to include all the intersections that make up my life.”
Beyond their technical skills, Deck is a prominent voice for the LGBTQ+ community within snowboarding. Creating space for everyone—by working on gender-neutral boots and boards, to co-founding Seen, a snowboarding non-profit that increases LGBTQ+ visibility and aid—Kennedi is helping create spaces where everyone can proudly show up as themselves.
