Irie Jefferson

INCLINE VILLAGE, NEVADA
“Exploration has been my whole life.”
By the time he turned 14, Irie had lived in four countries and on three different continents. From Jamaica to Armenia to Samoa—Irie’s background was always changing, but the freedom he found in play was constant. It wasn’t until college that Irie settled into snowboarding as his means for exploration. After sliding a C-box on his first day, he was hooked. And these days, whether he’s lapping the park, sliding city rails or going deep into the backcountry, he’s always happiest when attached to a snowboard.
As a child, Irie always paid a lot of attention to how his body moved in the air. Years of skateboarding, cliff jumping, and general mischievousness all informed his unique approach to snowboarding—he performs flips and rotations in combinations not previously seen. Curiosity drives his progression, with new tricks immediately following his perfection of another. He lives in the air.
Irie uses snowboarding to discover his own potential, but it’s his wide smile and humor that invites anyone and everyone to join him. For Irie it’s about bringing people together. Halo Halo, an event he hosts, welcomes BIPOC riders of all levels. By helping to lower the barriers for entry into snowboarding he’s proudly paying his own good fortune forward.
