About The North Face DryVent™
Rain doesn't cancel the adventure. It just raises the stakes, and The North Face's DryVent™ collection is your first line of defense.
What is DryVent™? It is our proprietary waterproof, windproof, and breathable technology found in many of our rain shells, snow pants, gloves, and footwear. DryVent™ is designed to:
Keep rain out: The multi-layered fabric blocks water from getting in and the durable water-repellent (DWR) finish helps rain bead and run off the surface.
Block wind: Sealed seams block wind in addition to rain.
Let water vapor escape: Avoid that clammy feeling from wearing a non-breathable raincoat.
Be comfortable: Unlike some waterproof materials that tend to be stiff, DryVent™ is designed to be soft and wearable.
There are three main types of DryVent™. Which one you should choose depends on your needs.
DryVent™ 2L (Two-Layer) is our most versatile option for everyday wear. The two layers are the face fabric and the waterproof layer. DryVent™ 2L jackets are sometimes insulated, making them great choices for skiing and cold, wet days.
DryVent™ 2.5L (Two-and-a-half Layer) is a lightweight and packable option ideal for activities like running and hiking. The layers consist of a face fabric and a waterproof layer with a protective printed coating.
DryVent™ 3L (Three Layer) is our most durable option. Designed for high-performance in severe weather or long-duration conditions such as those encountered during backcountry adventures, the layers include a face fabric, a waterproof layer, and a full inner fabric backer.
Keep the finish (the DWR) in good shape. DWR coating can degrade over time due to dirt, oils, and general wear and tear.
Use layers underneath. We strive to make our jackets as breathable as possible, but consider layering if you want to avoid any chance of feeling clammy.
Select the DryVent™ construction that matches your intended use. Choose 3L for tough, technical activities. Choose 2.5L for fast and light activities like trail running or for when you need a jacket that packs away easily.
HyVent is actually the former name for this waterproof technology before it was renamed to DryVent™.
