FAQ
Lay out your clothing, food, water and other essentials before loading your pack. Group items by purpose and when you’ll need them. Pack gear you won’t use until later first, then add frequently used items near the top or in accessible pockets.
Place denser items, such as food and cooking equipment, close to your back in the middle of the main compartment. Fill gaps around them with softer clothing. Keep the load balanced from side to side, and use compression straps, if included, to secure the contents.
Keep snacks, a map, sunglasses and other frequently used items in hipbelt, side or top pockets, depending on your pack’s layout. Place an extra layer near the top of the main compartment. If your pack has a dedicated reservoir sleeve, load the reservoir before packing the remaining gear.
Roll or fold clothing into compact bundles, then group spare socks, base layers and other pieces in separate packing pouches. Tuck soft items around bulkier gear to fill unused spaces. Keep clothing you may want during the hike separate from layers reserved for camp.
Start with sleeping gear at the bottom, then place food, cooking equipment and other denser items through the middle. Pack shelter components according to their shape, keeping rigid pieces separate from fabric where practical. Leave camp-only items deeper inside and keep trail essentials accessible.
