More About Carry On Luggage
Whether you pack neatly with packing cubes, or you're more of a "stuff and sit" kind of packer, you'll be able to fit all you need into our carry-on bags so you can travel with ease.
Our collection offers all the bags and gear you need for your next adventure. While our carry-on bags come with comfort features like open-cell-foam shoulder straps and padded back panels for lengthy airport waits, our luggage with wheels includes hard-sided suitcases for repeated worldwide jetsetting.
Our softside duffels and totes offer more freeform than the polycarbonate shell of a hardside spinner. Even still, our camping bags, like the Base Camp Duffel, are primed for tough outdoor terrains. Originally created as a nearly-indestructible bag for Himalayan expeditions, today these duffels have evolved into rugged travel bags available in various sizes. From reinforced grab handles to extra-strong stitching, find styles ready to go through it all with you.
Great storage is critical to luggage, and our carry-on travel bags are designed to hold everything you need. Some feature a protective, fleece-lined laptop sleeve that can hold devices up to 15 or 16 inches. Others have one or two water bottle pockets so your drinks are always within easy reach and separate from tech devices. Or grab a laptop bag for your personal item and you're ready to go.
In some bags, the main compartment closes with a fillet zipper to give you easy access to contents. Other main compartments come with an adjustable divider so you can separate dirty clothes or shoes. Central storage aside, many of our carry-on bags come with external pockets. You’ll find small ones to hold little keepsakes and large ones to hold bigger items like headphones.
If you’re looking for a carrying essential with a lot of organized space, consider browsing our backpacks. Our best selling Borealis Backpack comes with Flexvent™ Suspension System that provides all-day support with a padded back. It also includes a laptop sleeve of up to 15" for a device of your choice. Whatever you decide, our accessories are made with your needs in mind.
Many of our bags come with padded side, top and bottom handles to enable multiple comfy carrying positions for longer journeys. Side grab handles can be particularly handy as they help the bag sit away from your body so it doesn’t swing into your side.
Other carry-on bags feature adjustable alpine-cut shoulder straps, which follow the natural curves of your shoulders and chest for a snug fit, no flopping around as you walk. You can remove these when you only want to use the side handles only or when checking the bag in for a flight to prevent damage.
Carry-on Luggage FAQs
The maximum size allowed for your carry-on suitcase varies by airline. Make sure to check the guidelines for the airline you're using for every leg of your journey. Some bag requirements are measured in "linear inches," which means the size limit is based on the sum total of your bag's length + width + height. If your bag doesn't fit the size requirements, you may be required to check in your luggage at the gate.
The standard carry-on size for major Canadian Airlines, such as Air Canada and Porter Airlines is 55 x 40 x 23 cm (21.5 x 15.5 x 9 inches) which is very similar to US sizes 56 x 36 x 23 cm (22 x 14 x 9 inches. Major airlines like American, United, and Delta use these measurements, though not all major domestic airlines do and they are subject to change. International flights or travel in other countries may have different requirements. Check with the airline(s) you will be flying with for more specific information.
Pack your bag as it's going to be packed for the trip. (If you're taking hard-shell or hardside luggage, you can measure the case while it's empty.) Set your bag on a flat surface. Measure from the bottom of the bag to the top, from one side to the other, and from the back to the front. Include the wheels and handle in your measurement. These are your three measurements that you can check against your airline's size requirements.
Yes, the wheels and handle are both included when measuring the size of your luggage.
Most airlines travelling to and from Canada do not impose any weight restriction on carry-on luggage. Some exceptions apply, such as for destinations like Singapore (15 lbs/7 kg), Beijing and Shanghai (22 lbs/10 kg).
Carry-on luggage is luggage that fits within your airline's size limits and it goes with you onto the plane. During flight, it's stored in the overhead bin, as opposed to an underseat personal item, like a backpack.
