Down insulation. This natural material is ideal for both heavy-duty and everyday coats. For instance, the extreme cold-weather jacket, the Summit Series CLOUD DOWN AMK Parka, has 1000 fill ProDown™. This is a lightweight coat that is easy to pack and keeps you safe in the most unforgiving conditions. Other models, like the Aconcagua 3 Jacket, combine recycled polyester with down to create a midweight jacket that transitions seamlessly from the hike to the city.
Water repellent. The North Face uses DWR coating on the full jackets, coats, and parkas. This treatment to the fabrics acts as a barrier against water, causing it to bead up and roll right off.
Wind protection. Some men's winter jackets have a wind-resistant WINDWALL™ fabric. Those include the THERMOBALL™ Hooded Jacket and the TNF™ Red Box Down Jacket.
