Pack is smaller than I anticipated (even the large size) but I was definitely attracted to the color and price overall. This type of pack would be best for a short hiking/backpacking trip. Probably not the best for a trip over 3 days I would imagine. I haven't yet hiked with this

I use this pack for day hikes. Plenty of room for layers, water, food, etc. This is my first pack with a drawstring top and lid. I was a little concerned about having to dig through the pack to get at what I wanted, but that wasn't really a problem since I used several stuff sacks to organize my items. I like the pocket in the lid, very easy to access items without removing the pack. Pockets on the waist belt are roomy and very handy. It was easy to attached my trekking poles when I was not using them. I like the adjustability of this pack to custom fit my torso. The pack does not come with a rain cover which is disappointing. A couple added features might be nice: 1) add a key clip to the inside of the main pack; 2) Add a zippered mesh pocket to the inside of the main compartment to hold wallet/ID.
Previously I had an Angstrom 28 that after 4 years of low to moderate usage, some of the fabric on the straps was fraying at the seams. I took that pack to a THE NORTH FACE store, hoping to find out if I could send it in for repair. Pack was sent in, and a couple weeks later I received a gift certificate for the original price of the pack along with a note saying it was decided that this defective and a warranty issue. I was very happy to see a company stand behind it's warranty policy. Because I didn't like the redesigned Angstrom pack, I chose the Casimir 27 and have been very pleased. I also own a Surge II pack for my everyday work computer bag - also a great well made pack.

I tried this pack on before I purchased it. I bought a 27 Liter for a day pack. It doesn't have too many pockets, the internal for the water bladder, the top zipper pock on the hood of the bag, the front pocket and two water bottle pockets on the side. What I REALLY love about this pack are the pockets on the hip straps! AMAZING! I used it this past weekend on a 14er day hike and it was perfect for holding all of my layers, water bladder, and trekking poles. Again the hip pockets are prime. Love it!
