Some days you put trainers on at seven and take them off at eleven. That is the day ours are built for. Lightweight midsoles carry the cushioning without the bulk, so your legs are not fighting the shoe by the afternoon, and the foam holds its rebound rather than packing flat after a month. Breathable knit and mesh uppers move air across the foot, which keeps things cooler on a warm train and dries faster when you get caught out. Flex grooves let the shoe bend where your foot bends instead of resisting it, and the collar and tongue are padded enough to stop rubbing without adding weight you can feel. Underneath, the rubber comes from the same thinking as our outdoor footwear, so grip holds on wet tiles, painted lines and the greasy stretch of pavement outside every station in the country. Reinforcement sits at the toe and heel where trainers give out first. For something with a cleaner, less sporty silhouette, our women's casual shoes cover the same ground.
One pair, from pavement to path
The best pair is the one that copes with your whole day rather than one part of it. Most of ours will take you from a commute to a coffee to a long walk in the park without a change of shoes, which is rather the point. Where that stops is proper terrain. If your weekends involve mud, loose stone or steep ground, you want deeper lugs and a more protective upper, and our women's trail and running shoes are built for exactly that. On sizing, trainers tend to run differently to boots, so do not assume your boot size transfers across. Measure late in the day, allow roughly a thumb's width past your longest toe, and check the shoe holds your midfoot without pinching once laced. Thin socks and thick socks change the fit noticeably, so try them with what you actually wear. Rotate two pairs if you can, because foam needs time to recover between wears, and shoes that get a rest day last considerably longer than shoes that never do.
