Most trainers are designed for a pavement and hope for the best. Ours start somewhere less forgiving. The outsoles borrow from footwear tested on wet rock and loose ground, so the rubber holds when a kerb is slick or a park path has turned to mud, and the tread pattern keeps its bite instead of polishing smooth after a month. Midsoles are tuned for the kind of mileage nobody counts, the walk to the station, the day on your feet, the long way home, with cushioning that returns energy rather than flattening out by week three. Uppers use breathable knits and mesh panels that let heat escape on a warm platform, backed with reinforcement at the toe and heel where trainers usually split first. Padded collars and gusseted tongues keep grit out and stop the tongue sliding sideways. Black trainers do the heaviest lifting in most wardrobes because they hide the miles and go with everything, though the range runs wider than that. For a softer, less technical shape, our men's casual shoes cover the same ground with a cleaner profile.
Choosing the right pair for your week
Be honest about where your trainers actually spend their time. If it is mostly commutes, coffee runs and standing around, prioritise cushioning and breathability over aggressive grip, because deep lugs feel unnecessary on flat ground and wear down faster on tarmac. If your week includes towpaths, wet grass or the odd trail, you want more traction and a tougher upper, and our men's trail and running shoes are built for exactly that. On fit, allow a thumb's width at the toe and check the heel does not slip when you walk, not when you stand still. Try them with the socks you wear daily, since sock thickness changes the fit more than most people expect. A pair that fits properly stays comfortable for years, and a pair that nearly fits becomes the ones you stop reaching for.
