Frequently Asked Questions


What if I cannot participate once I have registered?

All race participant purchases are final and entry fees will not be refunded. No exceptions will be made. If you are unable to participate, race gear will be available for pickup at any time during scheduled packet pickup locations and hours, as well as on race day. Race gear will NOT be mailed.

Can I transfer my entry to another person?

Registration transfers between participants are not allowed.

Can I pick up my race gear and bib on race morning?


Participants may pick up race numbers on race day prior to race start at the Runner Registration booth. Race gear will be available post-race at the same booth.
Should you pick up your race number on race day, don’t forget to pick up your race gear post race. Race gear will not be mailed.


What if I want to change race distance or location after registering?


If you wish to transfer your entry to another race distance or location, click the link on the registration page to change your distance or event. Have your confirmation or account number ready and follow the instructions. All transfers will incur a $10 Transfer Fee along with any incremental registration fees. Participants may not defer their registration to 2019.
All transfer requests must be received no later than the day of the race for which you are registered. No transfers will be accepted post race.


Can I register for the race after online registration has closed?

If the race is not sold out, you may come to Packet Pickup and register for an increased registration fee. Race day registration is permitted if the race has not reached capacity.

Can someone else pick up my bib number and race packet?

Race numbers will only be given to family, friends or anyone else other than the participant with a photocopy or image of the participant’s government-issued photo I.D. No exceptions will be made.

Do I need to qualify to enter?

The North Face Endurance Challenge Series is open to all athletes. You do not have to qualify to enter Regional or Championship events.


Where can I find course information?

You can find course maps, elevation charts, pace charts and Aid Station information in the course guides on the Endurance Challenge website. There will also be race staff and course marshals at the race to answer specific questions you might have regarding the course.

What is the Marathon Relay course and transition process?

Marathon Relay teams will be comprised of two to four team members. Team members will run a 10K loop course that begins and ends at the Start/Finish area. An ankle strap will be exchanged between the team member finishing a loop and the runner starting a loop. There will be an exchange corral where runners will enter upon completing a loop and exit to start the next loop. DO NOT CROSS THE FINISH LINE UNLESS YOU ARE THE FINAL TEAM MEMBER TO RUN THE COURSE. Each runner will run the loop course once. The Marathon Relay registration fee is per team, not per member, and must be paid in full.

Will there be aid stations on the course?

All distances, excluding the 5K, will have Aid Stations on the course. Aid Stations will have a variety of nutrition and hydration options and medical support. To view Aid Station locations, amenities and a full menu of items provided, please refer to distance-specific course guide.

Can I use a Crew?


Yes. Crews are permitted for the Marathon, 50K and 50 Mile only and must adhere to the following rules:
• Crew access is only permitted at designated Aid Station (refer to distance-specific course guide) • Crews must check in with the Aid Station captain for direction on where to assist runners • Crews are limited to one vehicle per runner at designated Aid Stations
Violating any of these rules will result in runner disqualification.


Are pacers permitted?


Pacers are permitted in the 50 Mile race ONLY. Pacers must adhere to the following rules:
• No pacers in any distance other than the 50 Mile race • Pacers are not allowed on the course prior to mile 27.0 • Pacers cannot meet runners at locations other than those designated • Pacers must check in with the Aid Station captain and sign a release waiver before joining their runner • Pacers must wear the provided pacer bib at all times • Pacer bibs must be visible on the outside and front of clothing • Runners can be accompanied by only one pacer at a time • No “muling” (carrying runner’s gear or nutrition/fluids) • No vehicular or bike pacing
Violating any of these rules will result in runner disqualification.


Can I have a gear bag on-course?

Only 50 Mile participants will be able to use gear bags on-course. Bags may be dropped off at Packet Pickup or the morning of the race at the Gear Bag Check booth. The earliest guaranteed time that gear bags will be back to the Finish Festival is two hours after the final runner passes through the Aid Station. If you would like to leave before the gear bags have returned to the Festival, you may drive to that Aid Station to collect your bag.

Where on the course can my friends/family watch the race?

We recommend having your friends and family watch the race at the Start/Finish Area or near the Aid Stations designated as spectator-accessible on the course maps (refer to distance-specific course guide).

Are there cutoff times on-course?

In accordance with parameters agreed to by NPS and State Parks and for the safety of all runners, volunteers and race staff, any runner that is off pace to complete their distance by the designated course cutoff may be pulled at any time by the Race Director.
Please be aware of the hard cutoff times for your chosen race (refer to distance-specific course guide). All runners will be expected to carry the slowest official finishing pace for the entirety of the course. If the runner fails to do so and is significantly behind pace, the race staff reserves the right to pull any runner from the race at any time and at any point on the course.

Is The North Face Endurance Challenge walker friendly?

All Endurance Challenge races are walker friendly with the exception of the 50 Mile race. All participants must complete the respective distances by the course cutoff times.

How will the course be marked?

The course will be marked with arrows and course ribbons. All arrows and ribbons will correspond to the color of your bib. Refer to your distance-specific course guide for color guides and examples.

What if I am unable to finish the race?


Any runner dropping out of the race must notify the volunteer captain at the nearest Aid Station or a staff member at the Start/Finish Area.
The athlete will be responsible for paying a large bill if a Search and Rescue team is sent out on their behalf and they are not on the racecourse.


Can I run with headphones?

Yes; however, the use of iPods or mp3 players is strongly discouraged for safety reasons. Please take caution if you plan on running with music.


Will there be food at the Start/Finish area?


There will be coffee, water, electrolyte beverages, fruit, bagels and other snacks provided for free at the Start/Finish Area.
All Mile, 50K and Marathon participants will receive a free meal ticket on their race bib, redeemable at the Catering booth. Food for spectators, other participants and Sunday participants can be purchased at the Concessions booth.
Please bring cash if you plan to purchase additional beer or food.



Where are restrooms located?

Restroom facilities are readily available at the Start/Finish area. On-course restroom locations will be clearly marked on course maps (refer to distance-specific course guide).

Will there be a lost and found?

Yes, all lost and found items will be held at the Information Booth located in the middle of the Start/Finish Area

Can I pick up my award early?

Yes, you may pick up your overall or age group award early at the Awards booth. Unclaimed awards will NOT be mailed.


What if the event is cancelled?

The North Face Endurance Challenge will take place rain or shine. Only a “force majeure” will be cause for cancellation. In the event of a cancellation, no refunds or credits will be applied to future events. Cancellation race gear will NOT be mailed.

How do I volunteer?

Volunteers are needed for the Start/Finish Area, on-course at Aid Stations and as course marshals and at Packet Pickup. Volunteers receive a shirt from The North Face and a free lunch. Please contact with questions or to sign up.


I didn’t pick my drop bag up at the Finish Line Festival. Where can I pick it up?

All unclaimed gear bags will be kept until 12:00 PM on Sunday. After this, bags will be available until the following Friday at a designated location (refer to distance-specific course guide). Unclaimed gear bags will not be shipped.

My drop bag is missing.

If the drop bag is not at the store, please email the race staff at for assistance.

I placed in my age group, but I didn’t pick up my award.

Please be aware that age groups do not receive award medals, and the race policy states that age group awards will not be mailed out. If you would like to discuss further, please contact the race staff directly.

I didn’t pick up my race gear at the Finish Line Festival after my race.

The Endurance Challenge does not mail race gear that was not picked up on race weekend.

I was given the wrong shirt (size/gender/printed distance/etc.).

Please contact the race staff and they will look into correcting the issue.

My results are missing or wrong.

Please email The Endurance Challenge race staff and they will work with the timing company to get your results corrected. Please allow up to 24 hours for updated results.

I have lost a personal item.

The race staff retains valuable personal items from each race. All other items including, shoes, bottles, clothes, packaged goods and bags, are donated.
