Training clothes that move with you

Training kit fails in boring ways. It clings when you sweat, it rides up when you reach, and the seams start rubbing somewhere around the third set. Ours are built to avoid all three. Fabrics are chosen for stretching in the directions your body actually moves, so nothing pulls at the shoulder on an overhead press or bunches behind the knee on a squat. Moisture-wicking knits pull sweat off the skin and spread it across the surface where it can evaporate, which keeps you cooler working hard and stops that cold clammy feeling the moment you stop. Flatlock seams sit smooth against the skin rather than standing proud, and the panels are placed to put fewer of them where a strap or a bench would press. Breathable mesh goes where heat builds, across the back and under the arms. Everything is built to survive a wash cycle two or three times a week, because training clothes that lose their shape by March were never really fit for purpose. Shorts, jackets and kit that keep up

Training shorts are worth thinking about properly. Look for a light, quick-drying fabric, a waistband that stays put without digging in, and pockets deep enough to hold a phone through a warm-up rather than throwing it out on the first rep. A light training jacket earns its place year round, not just in winter, since a wind-resistant shell over a damp base layer is the difference between a comfortable walk home and a miserable one. Add a cap for outdoor sessions and a bag that swallows a change of clothes, shoes and a water bottle without becoming a rucksack. The point of all of it is that training does not stop at the gym door, and a kit that only works indoors is a kit you end up replacing.
