Recently purchased one of these from a local retailer and decided it was time to give it a test run. Being an advocate walker, I decided to run the jacket in it's base format with the supplied liner at temp of 19 degrees F with a small 10mph wind. I walked about 1 mile with just a polo shirt on underneath and was slightly cold. It's to be expected considering no base layering...So I decided to change out the liner for the Denali Polartec 300 I had it was very warm and toasty, however movement was a little bit restricted.

The exterior shell is truly water proof like Gore-Tex and windproof as well. The sustained winds here did not penetrate the jacket at all, and it worked flawlessly. I would venture to say if you live in a climate that didn't see winters like we do here in the snow belt of the northeast, you could get away with this jacket in base fashion. (southern, west coast or pacific northwest). Or, if you wanted to do that here in the northeast, then you would need some warmer layers to run the jacket in standard format. However, with swapping of the liner, it does add cost to the jacket and it does in fact make it VERY warm. Not warm enough to break a sweat like that, but warm enough to do another few miles. Because of this small downfall in the warmth category, it gets a 4 instead of a 5.

Medium fit me perfect. I am 5'8" and 175lbs for reference.

It's a very nice, well made jacket. Stylish. Very warm. Hood has just the right amount of insulation. Completely blocks the wind.

Unfortunately, its not perfect. It's merely water resistant, not waterproof. The lack of pit zips makes it hard to dump heat. This is a ski jacket, but skiing is an aerobic activity. Ventilation is required. It occurs to me now that 3-in-1 jackets do not make good ski jackets. You need pit zips that go all the way inside. Even if this had pit zips, that would only ventilate the outside of the liner jacket.

Beautiful coat, exceptionally warm. I wanted to return it, it's white, I have a Black Lab, White isn't a good color for me. I liked it too much to return it. I would advise to get a size bigger than you usually wear.

Amazing Jacket

To all looking at the Triclimate jackets this is the best version. The Storm Peak has the a great windproof outside and a nice soft fleece like inside. The size fits well so that you could wear a sweater or other winter clothing underneath. The jacket is NOT waterproof so if that is what you are looking try one of the other Triclimates.

This jacket deserves 5 stars. It may be a little more money than you were planning on spending, but it is worth every cent. All the warmth, comfort, flexibility, and quality you could ask for.

As far as sizing, this may help some of you tall skinny guys out there. I am 6'3" 150 and buying clothes is a matter of compromises, seeing as sleeve length is very important to me. I bought the large, the sleeve fit great, going to the bases of my thumbs. However, there is probably room for another 50-75lbs in here, so you more proportionate guys shouldn't have a problem.

    Great Multi use jacket

    By

I bought this jacket for skiing and to simply use at college. I have not had the chance to use it skiing yet. However, it has already exceeded my expectations. The jacket is very warm, comfortable, and water resistant for a very long time in heavy rain before it even begins to get damp. Not only this but having the choice of the inside or outside shell has been more than helpful as the temperature can change quickly where I live. This allows me to take one jacket out in the morning and have not doubt that It will keep me comfortable all day long.
Also I know this is a small point but I love the way the jacket fits to my body. Most ski jackets are big and bulky where as this one comfortably holds tight to me, making me appear much thinner and I have to say I feel pretty good looking.
On a side note if you are like me and are tall thin and have a long torso and long arms you are probably wondering if the size calculator is accurate to fit your length. Well have no fear I did the calculator and followed its recommendation and it is by far the best fitting jacket I own in both the length and width of my body.

Needless to say this has become my new favorite jacket.

        Very nice coat

Gift for hubby so he hasn't tried it on yet, but the coat looks to be very nice and warm. The colors were true to the images on the internet. The liner jacket is a nice material without being shiny. The two coats combined aren't too bulky which is always a plus. My only complaint is that I don't like TNF hoods because they come over the head too far.
