The shirt that made it possible
We worked with Arlene Blum to recreate the original T-shirt that funded the first American—and all-women’s ascent of Annapurna I. The American Women’s Himalayan Expedition ultimately raised more than $80,000 by selling classic T-shirts that made a simple statement: A Woman’s Place is on Top. In the spirit of equal opportunity exploration, we’re donating 100% of our T-shirt revenue to SheJumps, a nonprofit organization that gets women and girls involved in outdoor activities.*
In 1978, Arlene Blum led a team that was 13 women strong from San Francisco to the dangerous peaks of the Nepal Himalayas. At that time, only eight men had summited Annapurna I and Blum’s team was challenged to navigate steep slopes and avalanches during their ascent. Their successful summit proved that women have the skill, strength, and courage to scale one of the toughest mountains in the world.
