Women's Beanies At The North Face

When it comes to women's headwear for cold weather, nothing combines style and function quite like a beanie.  While different types offer different benefits (like the extra ear protection of a trapper hat or the timeless style of a cable knit hat), a great all-around women's beanie should be lightweight, easy to pack, keep your head and ears warm, and be effortless.

How should a beanie fit?

Beanies should fit so that they don't slide down over your eyes, but how you choose to wear it on your head is up to you.  Some wear them so that they only cover the upper half of the ears.  Larger beanies, especially styles with pom poms, can be worn higher on the head for a more casual look.  For a truly snug fit, pull the beanie down in the back and tuck excess material into the cuff.

Common Materials

Acrylic may be the most common fabric used to make beanies.  It is a synthetic fiber that is easier to clean than fabrics like wool and holds dyes well so that vibrant hues and patterns will last longer.  Cotton is another common material that is actually machine-washable and durable.  Fleece  is soft and moisture-wicking which is a great quality to have if you are looking for a beanie for your morning jog or trail run.  Finally, wool is sometimes used in beanies which has an unmatched ability to retain heat.
