Chemical
Responsibility
Tracing and working to phase out
harmful chemicals.
We are committed to creating products that deliver the performance our customers need. Some of the chemicals we use for water, stain and oil repellency contain perfluorinated Ā compounds, or PFCs. For the majority of our products, we have replaced our Durable Water Repellency (DWR) chemicals with non-fluorinated options and we are committed to using non-fluorinated solutions across all of our products as soon as we can without compromising the performance of our gear.
We share our standards for chemical safety with all of our suppliers and maintain a Restricted Substance List (RSL) that identifies chemical substances restricted from our products for regulatory, safety and/or environmental reasons. We also help our suppliers identify environmentally preferable alternatives.
We use tools like VFs CHEM-IQ system and our bluesign membership to evaluate preferred chemistries and processes that are less environmentally impactful. Since launching in 2016, more than 11,500 chemicals have been screened through CHEM-IQ for our brand. Of those, more than 1,000 have been flagged as "red," or non-preferred, and removed from our product supply chains.
