Diane Van Deren

Ultrarunner

The New York Times called ultrarunner Diane Van Deren a “medical miracle.” Diane spent 10 years racked by debilitating epilepsy, until risky and radical brain surgery gave her a seizure-free life. A long-time athlete with a uniquely competitive spirit, Diane has been driven to win grueling events like the 2009 Yukon Arctic Ultra, a 430-mile foot race across a frozen wilderness. In May 2012, she shattered the speed record for North Carolina’s Mountains to Sea Trail, running its 1,000 miles in an amazing 22 days.
