Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, Emily started climbing as a young girl, joining the USA Junior Climbing Team at the age of 12 and becoming a nationally-ranked competitor indoors on artificial walls. Reaching the heights is the norm for Emily - she has climbed the extremely difficult sport climbing grade of 5.14b, been on the podium at World Cup competitions, and recently delved into the ice and mixed climbing world, climbing M9 mixed and winning the Ouray Ice Festival in 2012. Most recently, she found herself on top of the world, summiting Everest in spring 2012.
