It’s a new dawn, and with it comes the announcement of a new event on its way to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia! Today, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced the incorporation of a freeskiing slopestyle team to its roster of disciplines, and we are excited to announce The North Face athletes Tom Wallisch and Devin Logan are two athletes named to the team’s ranks. As you may have heard, The North Face is the official supplier for U.S. Freeskiing. We couldn’t be more excited about today’s announcement. Our partnership with U.S. Freeskiing, is a big part of our commitment to the growth of the sport, and helping athletes achieve their Olympic goals. Hopefully you’ll follow along with us this winter as our athletes venture out for what should be a historic season. Keep an eye out for our athletes at all the top-notch events, like Winter X Games.
Tom Wallisch
Skier
Tom Wallisch grew up removed from the traditional “resort scene” in the unlikely location of Pittsburgh, Pa. Learning to ski during family trips on winter weekends, Tom quickly developed an obsession. As he got older he indulged it at nearby resorts during weekends and on urban features during the week.
Freshly armed with his High School Diploma, Tom headed west where he enrolled at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The rail skills that he’d honed in Pittsburgh initially got him noticed in a series of web edits, but soon his park skills caught up, making him an up-and-comer on the slopestyle scene.
Exploding in 2009, Tom topped the podium at many events and finished the season as the number one AFP ranked slopestyle skier in the world. 2010 saw “T-Wall” cement his place at the forefront of his sport, with a gold medal in the slopestyle at the European X Games, first place at the Snowbasin stop of the Dew Tour and Freeskier’s highly-coveted Skier of the Year title. Winter 2012 was another banner year for Tom with seven podiums and two X Games medals — gold in Aspen and silver at Euro X, which earned him ESPN’s Action Sport Athlete of the Year.
Any winter days not spent on the competition circuit are focused on finishing up his marketing degree at the University of Utah and filming for any number of film companies, including Level 1, 4bi9, TGR, Field Productions, and the Wallisch Project, an upcoming video project that Tom is independently producing. During the short off-season, Tom spends his time skating, wakeboarding, mountain biking, and soaking up the sun on the beach.
