ESSENTIAL GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS BY THE ENDURANCE TEAM TO KEEP YOU FAST & LIGHT!

Countless factors come into play when selecting gear, including terrain, distance, time of day and weather conditions.

Always train as much as possible with your gear before the race in order to get comfortable with it and break it in. By Race Day, your gear should be your best, most trusted running partner - one you know you can trust no matter what the weather, course conditions or distance.

Also, what you wear on Race Day will depend on WHERE you're racing.  For example, moderate temperatures and wind greeted some Bear Mountain, NY runners in 2011, while participants in the 2011 Washington, DC Endurance Challenge had some moderate heat. Layering was essential in both the Madison and San Francisco events this past year - weather conditions changed throughout the weekend, bringing wind, rain, sunshine and plenty of mud.

Once you register for the race, we will do our best to advise you on smart gear choices throughout your training period.

“Single-Track Hayasa - Perfect light-weight race shoe! The Hayasa has a low-profile neutral design that was specifically developed for trail racing. The mesh upper keeps out dirt and rocks, but still maintains breathable performance.”

“Better Than Naked Cool Crew T-shirt - the best breathable running shirt ever! The body- mapped ventilation, and burn-out ventilation at the center of your back, all keeps you cool and breathing easier during tough race efforts. This shirt is great if you are wearing a hydration pack, or just running with hand-held bottles.”
